SPACES

There is an old story that Koi fish will not grow larger than the pond in which they live.

I start by helping people to understand the space in which they are working so that they can see the full opportunity space for their idea.  We look at the business, technological, social and political spaces involved, drawing on my wide experience and knowledge of these areas.


STRATEGIES

We then develop and refine the strategies to grow their venture, including
  • their business model, including growth assumptions and potential exit strategies (for startups)
  • their technology, including platforms and partnerships, standards, and protecting their intellectual property
  • ways to test the concept through prototyping and pilots, and comparison to competitive products and strategies
  • testing the concept against a variety of scenarios
  • implementation strategies, including offshore development
  • marketing including differentiation, niching, branding, elevator statement and viral marketing strategies
  • staffing, especially the executive team
  • setting up an emeritus board of advisers
  • funding including venture capital (and who to approach), government funding programs, and raising capital through licensing intellectual property
  • creating a clear action plan with a timeline, deliverables, and metrics for success
  • creating a clear, communicable, exciting vision of the venture
  • creating an ongoing strategic process within the organisation

Throughout this process we also discuss the deeper significance of our work.  We ask

  • is it in line with the significant shifts shaping the world today?
  • how will it change our world? and will it create a better world?
  • will our vision capture the hearts and minds of our people, partners and the people we serve?
